Gaining or Draining strength?

Isaiah 30:15
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”

If we look into the context of this scripture from the history of Israel, we find that the Northern kingdom of Israel was anxious under the threat of Assyrian attack at the time of this writing. In fact they were desperate to collaborate with their powerful neighboring nation, Egypt to be successful in war. Hence, they were sending messengers in swift horses to convey the news that they need help to fight against the coming enemy Assyria. But instead of asking help from God and waiting on Him, they were trying to find solutions to their problems with their own schemes.

In spite of all this, God is still mindful of Israel and counsels His people to return to Him. The advice of God is special; He tells them to repent and return from their sinful ways and rest in Him. They can be strengthened only if they stay quiet in Him waiting upon Him to renew their strength. In fact, it is God who allowed this trouble from Assyria to make them return to Him. So if they foolishly try to run away from Him, they may end up being vain in their efforts and will be sure to lose the battle and could be drowned in this crisis.

Even in our everyday lives, we face many crises, some are too acute to face and we frantically run here and there to fix them up. We don’t realize like those foolish Israelites of the past that it is God who is behind the scenes. It was allowed by God to mould us and find our rest in Him. So if we return to God in repentance, we become victorious or else we are sure to face defeat. So when we face threats, overridden deadlines and crushing pressures, we need to just close our eyes and try to feel His presence. This will tell us how far we have gone from His reach. It is never too late to get back to Him; our beloved creator is waiting to give us rest. Our lives are too small in this earth as we run our race facing heaven. God expects us to run this race with confidence in Him and this makes us rest in His peace. All our failures and triumphs are just long strides in the overall journey marked by God for us to mould us into His divine nature.
